Must my child have baseball experience to play in CCLL?

No, we take players of all experience levels. And with 3-4 contacts per week, kids learn at a very fast rate!

What are the age ranges and divisions of play?

Coal Creek Little League accepts kids of 6-14 years of age

What are the dates for the season?

Registration typically begins in December. Player evaluations are in late February. Practices start in early March. Games are played April through the first week in June. All Stars (for Minors, Majors, Intermediate and Junior divisions only) begins in early June and continues through the district tournament in early July.

Must my child play in their respective age division? Can they play up?

It is recommended players participate in their respective age division, however we allow players to "play-up" in a higher division based on skill and division availability. Players are only allowed to play up in the next higher level division. For example, a 10 year old player may only request to play up to Majors, not the Intermediate Division.

Players seeking to "play-up" must attend player evaluations to be assessed for skill to safely play in the higher division.

What is the player evaluation?

Before the season starts, players are expected to participate in a player evaluation. This is not a tryout! All players who are registered in CCLL are guaranteed a spot on a team.

The evaluation is used to assess player skills to help place players on teams that will provide a fun and competitive experience. The evaluation is also used to help draft players to teams in the Minors, Majors and Intermediate divisions.

Player evaluations are done to try to achieve a competitive balance throughout the league. After player evaluations, coaches draft players based on their evaluation scores.

For the Intermediates division, players are selected based on evaluation. Players who do not make this team are moved to another division, based on their age. (12 and under are placed in Majors, 13 and older are placed in Juniors)

What if I cannot make the player evaluation?

It is strongly recommended your player makes the evaluation. However, If you cannot make the evaluation date, players scores from previous years will be used. If previous year scores do not exist, players will be moved to the bottom of the draft order.

Can I request my player to be on the same team as another player? Or can I request a specific coach?

We only allow this for the youngest age division, Rookies.

For all other divisions, players are drafted to create fair, competitive play, thus player association and coach requests are not allowed.

If we live outside of your league boundaries can we still play in your league?

Generally no, but there are two exceptions:

Your child goes to a school that is in our boundaries. You will need to provide a completed Little League School Enrollment form

You lived in our boundaries and moved away

Please let us know when you move and we will apply for a waiver on your behalf.
As long as you have a child in our league in consecutive years, you will remain eligible to play in our league with the approved waiver.

I registered but my player is on a waitlist?

You can be placed on a wait list for two reasons:

You live outside our estimated boundary. Please see our league boundary page to evaluate if you qualify to be in our district. Upon review, if you live within our boundary, you will be removed from the wait-list (provided there are still spots available).
- If you do not live without our boundary but attend a school within our boundary, additional documentation will be requested.
The division is full. In order to guarantee spots in the league and a reasonable number of players per team we estimate the number of players allowed in a given division and set a limit based on our resources. Many players initially placed on wait-lists will be moved into the league, but it is not always possible. Typically after evaluations the final number of teams will be confirmed. For more information on this process, read the next question as well.

I am on a wait-list, what do I do next and what are my chances?

You should consider the following:

If you have paid and are not placed on a team, you will be given a full refund
You should plan to attend evaluations regardless if you are wait-listed or not.
After evaluations, players who have not paid required fees will be bumped from their spot for wait-listed players who have paid
The number of teams is not final until after Evaluations and the Intermediate teams are drafted. A team can be added just prior to the other division drafts if we have enough kids.

The player_agent can let you know how likely you are to get into the league. Of course after the draft date the percentage decreases significantly. The draft date is usually very early in March.

Is the league for boys only?

No, the league is open to everyone. We invite and encourage girls to participate

What days will practice and games be on?

It depends on the division of play. There will be practice and games Monday through Friday evenings and all day on Saturdays We cannot honor practice request times or days.

Schedules will be posted early in March once the number of teams for the season is known The practice and game schedule will generally change throughout the season.

Field availability, daylight, and weather play a big role in setting our schedule.

Teams are generally formed with 12 to 13 players to help with conflicts that may arise due to the variable schedule.

How many days will there be practice and games?

For Rookies we generally keep to 3 contacts a week for practices and games.

For all other divisions, expect 4 contacts per week.

In the first couple weeks of the season, there will be only practices and then after Opening Day both games and practices will be incorporated in the same week.

As the season progresses, there will be progressively more games than practices each week. Practices are generally 1 to 1 and a half hours. Games are typically 1 and a half to 2 hours.
